KITE long-range delivery aircraft being prepared in Malawi

Medical drone delivery · Malawi

Healthcare should not be limited by geography.

Long-range KITE aircraft and the AXIOM operations platform can connect hospitals, laboratories and remote health centres when roads, water and time stand between a patient and essential care.

Evidence note

The results on this page are historical KITE Malawi programme results for November 2019–November 2023 and are attributed to KITE and its programme partners. They are not presented as Drone Solutions Malawi’s historical performance.

01 / The challenge

Rain, distance and difficult terrain do not reduce clinical urgency.

Remote health centres can depend on long road, motorcycle or boat journeys for medicines, vaccines, samples and results.

During flooding, fuel shortages or disaster, a routine supply route can become slow or inaccessible. Aerial logistics adds a direct, resilient transport layer—planned around healthcare workflows rather than aircraft alone.

02 / The operating system

KITE in the air. AXIOM behind the network.

A long-range aircraft and an operations platform work together to manage dispatch, airworthiness, monitoring and network oversight.

01

Clinical request

A hospital, laboratory or health centre identifies an urgent transport need and prepares the compliant package.

02

Planned dispatch

The route, aircraft, payload, weather and operating conditions are checked through the approved workflow.

03

Remote handover

KITE supports internal payload, drop and winch use cases, depending on the approved network design.

The KITE platform

Built around long-range health logistics.

Kite Aero states up to 230 km of range with a 4 kg payload, subject to environment, configuration and regulatory limits.

03 / Historical programme evidence

Four years of documented Malawi operations.

Programme totals reported for November 2019 through November 2023.

195,000+people directly benefiting from products flown
70remote health centres covered
230+health staff trained
202,891+medications transported
121,862+vaccines transported
53,024+samples and results transported

Local capability

A network succeeds when people can operate it.

The historical programme reported training more than 230 health staff to send and receive supplies. Future networks require the same commitment to clinical integration, local technical teams, aviation governance and reliable maintenance.

05 / Build the next network

For government, healthcare and development partners.

Drone Solutions Malawi is developing medical logistics capability using the KITE platform and AXIOM software. Each proposed network is subject to partner alignment, health-authority requirements, aviation approval and a verified operating design.
